thyssenkrupp welcomes cruise-ship visitors as mobility solutions partner at Istanbul’s new Galataport harbour
- thyssenkrupp Elevator ensures smooth and easy arrivals and departures for port visitors at Istanbul’s new, exciting waterfront

Istanbul is reinventing its waterfront and ensuring mobility for thousands of port passengers and tourists by installing well over 100 new elevators and escalators. thyssenkrupp Elevator is the supplier for the mobility solutions for this outstanding project which will employ 5,000 people after completion and is planning to accept berthing of ships carrying over 6,000 passengers at the Port of Istanbul.
Covering approximately a 1.2 km coastline from Karaköy to Tophane, currently known as Istanbul Salıpazarı Cruise Port, Galataport Project will be inaugurated in 2020. thyssenkrupp Elevator will produce all escalators and elevators for Galataport’s terminal, offices, stores and food courts adding great value to the historic city destination of Istanbul.
thyssenkrupp Elevator will also produce and install mobility packages consisting of 66 elevators and 21 escalators for the first phase of the Galataport Project. Delivering 36 more units with the second phase as well as stores, thyssenkrupp Elevator will have totally 123 units within the scope of the project.

The new Galataport connects Istanbul’s city center with the sea and thereby offers a new gateway to the heart of the Turkish metropolis. Its capabilities, its smart concept, and its sheer size make the new port a prime example for contemporary urban mobility. thyssenkrupp Elevator’s solutions significantly contribute to moving passengers around Galataport.
The port will serve up to approximately 1.5 million passengers and crew members per year. With its new underground terminal, there are high requirements regarding logistics especially related to the hydraulic boardwalk and gangway system. When completed in 2020, the new Galataport will be capable of docking as much as three large ships at the same time and hosting around 15,000 cruise passengers a day.
